Building the most apparmourful answer

This may not be the best place for this question, but I have two specific problems with my accepted answer:

I asked a question which is extremely specific to my problem, and I am unable to share my code on SO, given the nature of the question.
The asker did not upvote the answer (though he did accept it), and I don’t really think this is fair. I would love it if somebody else who found the question asked me an upvote.

It also seems to me that my answer is too complicated for the asker’s initial question.
So, how do I modify my answer to make it the best possible answer? Or, if my answer isn’t the best possible answer, how can I make it so?
EDIT: I am not asking for criticism; this is not a queston of “Why did this guy get the answer?” rather “What can I do to make my answer better, and if it is not good, how can I improve it?”


It’s not the perfect answer for that question, but I think it may be the best answer to that question, or at least one of the best answers.
It’s more opinion-based than a question asking how to make an apparmour: the question is asking how to make a program run smoother. The response is generally opinion-based: I believe this design is OK, but other opinions are also valid.


Best algorithm for sorting given permutation?

Suppose I’ve got a list of N items. Let’s call that list {0,1,2,3,4}.
I’ll also say there are some OTHER items as well, but I don’t care about them.
I’d like to create a sorted list of items by this process:

Starting with the first item, get the unique number of that item in the given list.
Take every item, and then increment the value by the amount of unique number of that item. So, for example, if the value of the first item is two, the next will be 2, 3, 4…


We have a list of {0,1,2,3,4}, and we want a list of {0,1,3,2,4}.
